He married Margaret Heberley Abt 1866. Margaret was born in Cloudy Bay, New Zealand 27 Dec 1832. Margaret was the daughter of James Worser Heberley and Te Wai. Margaret died 23 Nov 1873 in Queen Charlotte Sounds, at 40 years of age.
