He married Elenore Patchett. Elenore was born in Muston, Leicestershire 1847. Elenore was the daughter of John Patchett and Elizabeth Dring. Elenore died 15 Dec 1906 in Blenheim, New Zealand, at 59 years of age.

John Hodson and Elenore Patchett had the following children:

6 ii. William Hodson was born in Earlestown, Leicestershire 1867. He married twice. He married Margaret Kennedy. Margaret died 22 Sep 1937. He married Elizabeth Robertson in Wellington, New Zealand, 12 Mar 1938. Elizabeth died 27 Aug 1970.

7 iii. Reuben Henry Hodson was born in Muston, Leicestershire 1869. Reuben died 12 Apr 1936 in Blenheim, New Zealand, at 66 years of age. He married twice. He married Sarah Ann Buliff 6 Mar 1889. Sarah died 26 Sep 1909. He married May Davey 22 Mar 1916.

8 iv. Herbert Hodson was born 1871.

9 v. George Hodson was born in Muston, Leicestershire 1872. George died 20 Dec 1940 in Blenheim, New Zealand, at 68 years of age. He married Louisa Harriet Brooks in Blenheim, New Zealand, 9 Dec 1897.

10 vi. Joseph Charles Hodson was born in Muston, Leicestershire 25 May 1876. Joseph died 21 Oct 1965 in Blenheim, New Zealand, at 89 years of age. He married Lucy Jane Philpott in Blenheim, New Zealand, 6 May 1897.

11 vii. Elizabeth Jane Hodson was born in Spring Creek, New Zealand 1 May 1879. Elizabeth died 7 Nov 1954 in Picton, New Zealand, at 75 years of age.
